(MOSCOW) – A member of Russia’s Federation Council has called for the use of nuclear weapons and for military action against European capitals during a state television broadcast, as the Kremlin’s most prominent propagandists demanded a response to Ukrainian drone strikes on Moscow and St Petersburg.
Speaking on the programme “Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov”, Federation Council member Alexei Kondratiev said Russia must be prepared to use its weapons rather than confine itself to exercises. He argued that Russia should act “absolutely on the same principles as the Jews in Gaza”.
He called for cruelty towards the enemy and ruthlessness, with mercy reserved for Russians, and said nuclear weapons must be kept in combat readiness. “The enemy must understand we will strike,” he said. “There will be no explaining here, no asking whether you understand the consequences. True courage begins with the absence of reasoning about consequences.”
Kondratiev said Russia must take revenge for its fallen heroes and act mercilessly, and that if the leadership were obeyed clearly and instructions carried out, much would change in the country, including punishment not only for betrayal but for lying at various levels.
The broadcast followed what the host, Vladimir Solovyov, described as an unprecedented overnight raid on both Moscow and St Petersburg. He said he had worked with army aviation during the night and that the programme would address air defence, the role of the Baltic states and the question of how dangerously the world has split.
Solovyov said the West never jokes when it speaks of wanting to kill Russians and take their land. He claimed the phrase “never again” implies not only that there will never again be pain but that the deaths of Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians and Moldovans, all part of the great Soviet people, must not repeat. He said the greatness of these peoples was achieved only when they were part of a great empire, and that Russia is a great empire that gives greatness to the people but is obliged to protect them.
He said claims that the West wants to destroy Russia and inflict a strategic defeat must be taken very seriously. “They are not joking,” he said.
Kondratiev said he agreed “200%” that war is being waged against Russia on all fronts, and that Russia must state what price a future war would cost the people of the Russian Federation. He said what is happening today is preparation and the de facto introduction of war against Russia and must be taken extremely seriously.
He said Russia must respond not merely symmetrically but absolutely on the same principles as Israel acts in Gaza, and referred to comments attributed to Ben Hodges that Russians would never use nuclear weapons because China would not allow it. Kondratiev dismissed the idea, saying Russia must simply strike and ignore the consequences, and that the Americans would never die for a burning Europe.
Solovyov said America is playing its own game and Europe has no game of its own, and that there are now several Americas, each with its own game. Kondratiev agreed this is a major problem and said Russia must simply stop caring about them.
