(ST PETERSBURG, RUSSIA) – A tank caught fire at an oil loading terminal in St Petersburg after a mass drone attack on the city overnight into Sunday, 18th October, with Russian air defence systems active across the area.
Russian Pantsir and S-300/S-400 systems were operating during the attack, according to local public channels and OSINT resources cited by UNN. Observers reported launches of missiles by Russian air defences, probably attempting to shoot down aerial targets.
An oil loading port in the city was the target of the attack, the reports said.
The strike is the latest in a series of Ukrainian drone operations against Russian energy infrastructure, which have repeatedly hit refineries and export terminals in recent months. The attacks have cut into Moscow’s refining capacity and export volumes.
The fire follows a large blaze in central St Petersburg on the evening of 1st October at the historic Miller Mansion, near St Isaac’s Cathedral.
An explosion in St Petersburg on 28th August killed Major Sergei Sechkov of a Russian helicopter regiment.
