(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Russia has struck Ukraine’s energy infrastructure 76 times in the week since US President Donald Trump announced an energy truce, firing nearly 2,700 drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 66 missiles at the country, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa regions were hit overnight, leaving tens of thousands of families without electricity. Repair crews are working around the clock to restore supply.
Residential buildings in several regions were also struck during the night. Twelve people are known to have been injured, including two children, and two people were killed. An agricultural enterprise in Volyn was hit in the morning, and all emergency services are working at the site, Zelensky said.
Most of the missiles launched over the past week were ballistic. The main targets were energy facilities, with Russia trying to create a blackout, according to the president.
Zelensky said America must see that Russia is not taking steps toward an agreement in response to the lifting of sanctions or a deal. On the contrary, he said, Moscow reads every signal about the possibility of making money as confirmation that betting on war is working and that it can continue fighting.
He said the war continues because of Russia’s position, not because Ukraine is defending itself, and that Russia must be pressured so that peace has a chance. He thanked everyone who understands this and helps.
